If a player wants to Lay Off, they must add cards from their hand to pre-existing melds. Let’s say a player as a set of 9 of spades, 9 of diamonds, and 9 of hearts. They can add a 9 of clubs to that combination. Or, in the instance of a Run of, say, 3 of hearts, 4 of hearts, and 5 of hearts, a player could either add a 2 of hearts or a 6 of hearts. However, going by the rules of online Rummy, a player can’t rearrange their melds while they lay off. So, for example, if there’s a Set of the 6 of hearts, 6 of spades, 6 of diamonds, and 6 of clubs and a Run of the 3 of spades, 4 of spades, and 5 of spades on the tables, they player won’t be able to move the 6 of spades from the Set to the Run in order to place a 7 of spades.
